  • Richard Sankary, MD

    Chair of the Board
    President & CEO

    Richard Sankary, MD has been in practice since 1988. He received his BA in Biophysics with highest honors from UC Berkeley and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital/Southwestern Medical School and subsequently completed fellowship training in Pulmonary Medicine at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at UCSF. Dr. Sankary is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, and Sleep Medicine.

  • Anand Mehta, MD

    Treasurer of the Board

    Anand Mehta, MD practices internal medicine and endocrinology in Bay Valley Division’s Hayward and Danville offices. He attended the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at the New York University, School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Mehta is board-certified in internal medicine and endocrinology. He is fluent in English and Gujarati, and conversant in Spanish. Dr. Mehta joined Bay Valley Medical Group in 2012. In his spare time, Dr. Mehta enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and playing tennis.

  • Charlene Reimnitz, MD

    Board Member

    Charlene Reimnitz, MD, FACS, FACOG practices obstetrics, gynecology, and pelvic reconstructive surgery. Her subspecialty interests are minimally invasive surgery and urogynecology. She is experienced in single-site and multiport robotic surgery as well as advanced pelvic reconstructive vaginal surgery. In addition to her surgical and obstetric practice, she treats urinary stress incontinence, menopause, and uterine disorders. She is married and has two children.

  • Joceliza Chaudhary, MD

    Board Member

    Dr. Joceliza Chaudhary discovered her calling as a family practice physician in medical school. She realized that caring for the individual is best achieved by understanding that person’s surrounding family and community. This is the philosophy that continues to guide her practice.

    Dr. Chaudhary was born in the Philippines and emigrated to the United States at the age of 9. She has lived in the Bay Area since then. Dr. Chaudhary is married to an Internal Medicine physician and has three wonderful boys who are full of joy and laughter. When not working or chauffeuring boys around, she enjoys running. During the winter, they love to ski together as a family.

  • Anupama Velpuri, MD

    Board Member

    Dr. Velpuri practices family medicine in Bay Valley Medical Group’s Pleasanton office. She attended medical school at Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, India and completed her family medicine residency at San Joaquin Hospital in French Camp, California. Dr. Velpuri joined Bay Valley Medical Group in 2007. She is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is multilingual in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Urudu, as well as conversant in medical Spanish. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her children, Indian cooking and leading training programs on cultural competence in medicine.

  • Anne Parker, MD

    Board Member

    Anne Parker, MD has been with Alameda Pediatrics since 1991. Dr. Parker, a native of Oklahoma, came west originally to attend Stanford University. She then went to medical school at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and returned to the Bay Area for her pediatric training at the University of California, San Francisco. She joined Alameda Pediatrics after completing her residency program. She has been on the clinical faculty at UCSF. She and her husband live in Alameda. They have an adult daughter and triplet sons.

  • Vandana Boparai, MD

    Board Member

    Dr. Vandana Boparai practices internal medicine and is the Site Lead at SMP’s primary care clinic based in Pleasanton. She attended medical school at Goa Medical College in India, and completed her internal medicine residency at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Illinois. She is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Boparai’s interest in clinical research is one of the reasons she joined medicine. She has been involved in many gastrointestinal research projects in affiliation with Stanford University. Her professional interests include healthcare maintenance, preventative medicine and women’s health, hypertension, acid reflux, diabetes and COVID-19 management. She led the first outpatient Regional Respiratory Center of SMP for COVID-19 response in March 2020.

    In her free time, Dr. Boparai loves spending time with her kids and travelling with them.

  • Andrew Schechtman, MD

    Board Member

    Dr. Andrew Schechtman attended medical school at UCLA and completed his family medicine residency at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in California. He is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

    Having a special interest in medical informatics and communication, Dr. Schechtman is the Medical Director of Engagement and Systems Innovation at UMP. He is Stanford’s first ambulatory physician builder for Epic EMR, working to make the EMR a better experience for primary care clinicians. Dr. Schechtman is also the Associate Program Director of the Stanford Health Care – O’Connor Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program and has been a faculty member since 2004.

    After residency, he lived in New Orleans for 6 years, studying tropical medicine and teaching on the faculty of the Oschner Clinic Family Medicine Residency. Dr. Schechtman has volunteered with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders) working 6 months in Uganda, 1 month in Guatemala during the emergency relief response to Hurricane Mitch, and a year in Liberia during the civil war.

    In 2017, Dr. Schechtman took a year-long sabbatical in Peru with his family where he served as the senior physician in a remote jungle hospital in the Amazon river basin. Outside of work, he enjoys creating giant bubbles, experimenting with sous-vide cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
